Could someone give me a quick run-down on how to make layouts?

I've been trying for AGES to get someone to tell me Sad

Well, it's kinda hard to explain...
1. You find a picture you like.
2. You use some kinda program to add text onto it. (Paint, GIMP, PhotoFiltre, etc.)
3. You get some scroller box codes
4. You code your layout.
5. Edit your profile!!!
